South African self-proclaimed music legend in the making, Hobonoid, has released his breakout single, titled: ‘Hey Girl’- featuring Telleman.
The hip-hop star’s latest record, produced by the talented Kabelo Ise, follows the success of his two previous mixtapes – Supremacy, released in 2011 and End of the Beginning, which dropped in 2015.
With the rapper’s single promising to trend in various radio stations’ playlists, this proves that the decision to invest in musical education is finally paying off for the Damelin College Sound Engineer graduate – known as a great freestyler, lyricist and producer.
Born Landokuhle Clive Nyirenda, Hobonoid – a name created after the passing of his parents at a young age, an acronym which stands for: Human in Occurrence Being Observant Notifying Others of Inner Divinity – remembers how his musical journey started.
Speaking of trip to stardom, Hobonoid said: “I started taking my gift seriously when my mother bought me a microphone when I was 9-year-old; I was inspired by my big brother to rap. Three years later my mother passed away and I chose hip-hop to give me therapy because growing up without a father and then losing my mother had a huge emotional impact on me as a teenager.
“Hip-hop became my outlet and I learned how to produce music until I studied Sound Engineering at Damelin College in Durban, where I completed my diploma in Sound Engineering.
Hobonoid does not only make music, he is an entrepreneur who has already ventured into clothing business.
“My artistic vision has inspired my clothing line DMT (Dreams Made True) and I am working on establishing my record label.
“My brand resonates with turning tragic circumstances into positive opportunities. Through hard work, dedication, continuous learning, commitment and compassion for others, everything is possible,” said the multi-talented rapper from Esikhawini, Kwazulu Natal.
