Auditions: Clash Of The Choirs SA returns!

Mzansi Magic’s Clash of the Choirs powered by Metropolitan, returns for a third season in January 2016, and the much-anticipated line-up of choirmasters and venues have been revealed. The auditions are set to take place in seven South African provinces this September and October.

The auditions kick off in Gauteng from 19 -20 September, at the Pyramid Conference Centre in Johannesburg. The following weekend (26 – 27 September), Mpumalanga auditions take place at the Protea Hotel in Nelspruit; the Limpopo leg at the Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane; and the KwaZulu Natal leg at the Durban University of Technology. On the weekend of 3 – 4 October, auditions will take place in the Eastern Cape at the Fort Hare Audiovisual Centre; at Belmont Square in Cape Town; and at Eunice High School in Bloemfontein.

Clash of the Choirs’ sponsor for the third year running, Metropolitan, will also have a presence at the country-wide auditions, “We wish all of the contestants the best of luck,” says Llewellyn Allen, Head of Brand for Metropolitan, “and look forward to seeing you at the upcoming auditions.”

This season promises more twists to the gripping format, where for the first time, the seven choirmasters have had to draw from a hat for the province they’ll represent. This season’s 7 Choirmasters are as follows: Limpopo’s music king Penny Penny, superstar singer and actress Kelly Khumalo, rapper iFani, producer and performer JR, South Africa’s Queen of House Bucie Nqwiliso, Kalawa Chikita Busiswa Lahla, and KwaZulu Natal gospel legend Sfiso Ncwane. The big reveal of who’ll be going where will take place in the show’s first episode.

Sphumelele Sibeko, Mzansi Magic’s Head of Reality commented on what can be expected this year, “This season is set to be the biggest and most exciting yet, but it all starts with the participants. We urge people to come out in their numbers and audition, to make for the most spectacular showcase of talent yet. We have upped the entertainment value of the series to ensure we deliver our audiences with world-class entertainment for each and every episode throughout this new season.”

The winning choir will win R 1 000 000 in prize money, with an additional R 250 000 being donated to a charity organisation of their choice. Auditions start promptly at 8AM in each region, and members of the public are urged to arrive early as this year there will be a 4PM line cutoff.
