Eddie Zondi’s mum loses her house

It’s been over a year since Thokozile Zondi lost her son – the late Metro FM presenter Eddie Makhosonke Zondi – who bought her a house in Naturena, south of Johannesburg.

In the past 14 months, Gogo Zondi did not only endure the pain of losing her most loved son, she also lost the house that the generous broadcaster bought for her.

After failing to keep up with the bond repayments, the house of a deceased mother – a struggling pensioner who shared the house with her daughter – has been repossessed and sold for R400 000 on Monday.

One of the concerned neighbours, who spoke to Sunday Sun, said: “Gogo Thoko has been staying at this house for such a long time and it’s sad that she had to leave the house for not paying the bond.

“Eddie bought her this house and he was paying the bond, but after he passed on, it became difficult for Gogo to pay as she’s a pensioner.

“Her daughter works in a shop and she doesn’t earn much.”

The sad news has reached the office of acting SABC COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, who promised to discuss the issue with the concerned local community leaders.

“I’m prepared to meet with the community leaders so that we can discuss the matter affecting the mother of the late Eddie,” he told the paper.
