The Cost of Nude Pictures: Miss Zimbabwe Loses Her Crown

The reigning Miss Zimbabwe Thabiso Phiri, who was due to contest the Miss World Pageant in London, has stepped down, less than two months after clinching her coveted title.

The Miss Zimbabwe Trust has not disclosed the reason for the resignation, but state media is alleging nude pictures of the model were posted on social media and went viral.

Phiri is said to have sent the photographs to her lover, who in turn allegedly leaked them via social media platforms.

“Due to circumstances unforeseen at the time of the holding of the Miss Zimbabwe pageant on the 14th of June 2014 and which circumstances are peculiar and personal to the winner of the pageant Miss Thabiso Phiri, it has become imperative after her disclosure of the said circumstances that she steps down as Miss Zimbabwe.

“It must be emphasised that the decision by Miss Thabiso Phiri to step down is personal to her and no duress or undue influence has been brought to bear upon her in making this decision,” the statement said.

According to www.globalnationspageants.com, pageants rules state that: ‘Contestant must never have, or will not during her reign, pose for any photography, video, or film associated with nudity or pornography. Nor has she ever, or is presently involved with prostitution or any form of employment which involves partial or complete nudity.’

First princess Tendai Hunda is expected to replace Phiri
