In his first and last time writing about his life on Facebook, South African upcoming hip-hop star – Michael Mluleki Mthethwa – pens an inspirational letter about the struggle to cope with his parents’ divorce, how the death of his father affected his studies and why he decided to drop everything to focus on music career.

Read the full letter below:

My name is Michael Mluleki Mthethwa. I’m 23-year-old. I was born and raised in Kwamashu J Section. At the age of 7, we shifted to Newlands East, moved to Umbilo in 2013 then I moved back to Newlands in 2014.

My mom & dad divorced when I was only 10 years. I don’t wish any kid to experience that because it was a really sad time for me.

Fast forward I matriculated in 2009, studied at DUT (Durban University of Technology), then in 2012 (when I was doing my final year at varsity) my dad passed away. This was the most devastating time of my life, I just couldn’t handle that. I’d cry and cry like a b*tch. I never wrote some of my modules’ final exams and failed as a result! But I completed my course the following year and got employed to do an in-service [training]. I’ve always been interested in Hip Hop.

Since I have to work my way up from the bottom to the top in the company and the work I’m doing has nothing to with what I studied (accounting), I needed something more quicker.

Now I’m giving Hip Hop my full attention. My mom can never say I disappointed her because I did study & I have been assisting her financially. My nigga Telephunk on the other hand also studied at DUT & graduated. He’s an Engineer & he’s also pursing music now. He’s very busy lately, [travelling] up & down (going to Jozi this week to work on his debut album) doing videos & photo shoots. You will be seeing him quite frequently on your TVs in a few weeks!

Be inspired & chase your dreams. Education is the key. Black people can’t be always poor, let’s all change that. This is the1st & last time I’m talking about my life on FB. The next time you will be seeing my story on TV. BOOM!!
