Spring Fiesta Experience: Black Coffee leaves crowd in Pieces

DJ Black Coffee proved that his recent international award was not a fluke. This is according to thousand fans who attended the fifth annual Ekurhuleni Spring Fiesta festival in Boksburg, Johannesburg, on Saturday.

Having being scheduled to be the last one to perform, the producer of ‘Pieces of Me’ album – whose popularity has reached global stardom – delivered a set that many described as legendary, in Black Coffee style.

By the time the husband of TV personality and businesswoman, Mbali Mlotshwa, completed his set the crowd was in pieces, literally.

Although Coffee, 39, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, was the highlight of my night, other artists did not disappoint.

Other musicians who displayed a true fiesta performance include DJ Fresh, DJ Shimza, DJ Oskido, Naves, Lulo Café, Culoe de Song and Black Motion, and international DJs Rocco, Osunlade, Lars Behrenroth and Jullian Gomes.

Pity I couldn’t make it to all seven stages, the main stage kept me put for several hours. But word from my sidekick is that hip hop stage was on another level of beef.

Celebrities were out in numbers: actors, musicians, politicians, radio DJs, etc.

Spring Fiesta lived up to its hype: it was quite an ‘experience’ for the first-timer like me. With over 60 local heavyweights and international musicians, seven stages, the warning of revisiting my dance moves was written all over my excitement and flat shoes. We dance and had fun. I am already looking forward to the next event.

Special thanks to Shree O’Brien, Managing Director of Spakavellis Management on behalf of Spring Fiesta team, for the invite. It was quite a memorable experience.
