SA’s Top Paid Actors

As the acting industry of South Africa continues to be scrutinized since Mfundi Vundla – the boss of the country’s most watched TV show, Generations – sacked the entire striking cast over a salary dispute, Sunday World unmasked the industry top earners.

The tabloid reveals that Sindi Dlathu, who plays Thandaza on SABC2’s Muvhango, is the corporation’s highest-paid actor, with a salary of about R85 000 a month.

She is followed by Sophie Ndaba, who plays Queen on SABC1’s Generations, with a monthly salary of about R75 000.

Menzi Ngubane, who plays Sibusiso Dlomo on SABC1’s Generations, was the third with a salary of about R70 000.

Veteran actor Patrick Shai, who had just joined Generations, was the fourth-highest-paid actor with a salary just shy of R70 000.

However, according to the latest Drum magazine which quoted three independent sources, Sello Maake Ka Ncube, who plays Daniel Nyathi on e.tv primetime soapie Scandal, Jamie Bartlett, who plays the character of David Genaro on Rhythm City, and Moshidi Motshegwa, who played the villain Naomi Fisher on Rhythm City, each take home a pay check of between R100 000 and R120 000 per month.
