Legendary Chicco’s daughter is a DJ!

Nowie Zanele Twala, the daughter of award-winning music icon, Chicco Twala, is in a mission to claim her spot as one of South Africa’s top female DJs.

How does DJ Z’ne describe her style of DJ-ing? “I’m a very versatile DJ. I can’t stick to one genre within house music. I can play tempo, electro, tribal and commercial music.”

Confident about her future, the 24-year-old singer-songwriter, nicknamed DJ Z’ne, can’t wait for the sound she recorded with her musician father to be listened by million Mzansi citizens.

“And soon, Mzansi will get to hear my new sound featuring Chicco,” DJ Z’ne told Sunday Sun.

Like any upcoming DJ, the passionate Twala – who is scheduled to take part in the annual Durban Beach Festival on 27 November – is inspired by world established DJ, Nkosinathi Maphumulo – aka DJ Black Coffee.

“I admire DJ Black Coffee’s work, both locally and internationally.

“He’s built himself a great fan base in the music scene.”

What does the future hold for Chicco’s daughter?

“At the moment I’m focusing on a lot of things. I need to brand myself so I can become a household name.

“I want to create the foundation, then build an empire on it – just as my dad did.”
