Metro FM fires ‘Queen B’ After 2 Months

SABC chief operations officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng has hammered a barbed stinger into Bonang “Queen B” Matheba’s career.

According to Sunday World, the Metro FM presenter of The Front Row – who has been with the station for over two months – was fired on Friday for showing the public broadcaster the middle finger.
She had turned down the request to not co-presenter a World Cup show with Sizwe Dhlomo on rival SuperSport.

SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago confirmed Matheba’s immediate termination of her contract with the radio station.

“Ms Bonang Matheba has been given a letter of dismissal on the basis that she had not asked for approval before entering into agreement [with SuperSport] as stated in her contract with the SABC”.

Mzansi’s It Girl is set to lose wags of lucre as the SABC intends to force al production house, including Top Billing, to terminate their contract with her. But Queen B denied that she was fired, saying she “decided to end their relationship”.

“The broadcaster claims that no talent on any SABC platform is allowed to be on other broadcasters across any medium. I could not agree to these terms as it does not align with my future business plans

“Metro FM is a fine station and it’s a pity that my journey has been so short.

“I am an independent freelancer and have been working peacefully with all broadcasters over the years. My future potential cannot be jeopardised by accepting terms that will [not] grow my career” said Matheba.

She questioned what she termed “double standards”, saying other presenters were allowed to work rival media houses.

“The SABC also lied about giving me a TV show,” she charged.

“I asked them if they have anything for me as fas as World Cup TV plans were concerned, and they said they will come back to me. They never did. But when I look at SuperSport offer, they suddenly spoke about a TV show for which there was no contract in place.”
