South African legendary producer and singer, Robbie Malinga, is an angry man.
This comes after a renowned producer DJ Maphorisa stole and remixed Mthande – the hit single by Idols SA 2013 winner, Musa Sukwene, which was produced and written by Robbie – without permission.
What angers the disappointed Malinga, who recently announced that he will no longer sing but focus on producing music, is DJ Maphorisa’s lack of cooperation.
Speaking to Sunday Sun, the award-winning producer said: “When we heard the remix on Ikwekwezi FM, we tried to be civil and consulted Maphorisa. We asked him to drop the song but he refused.
“What he’s doing is wrong and I don’t like the way he handled this matter.
“People download it. This is stealing and it’s piracy at its best.”
The talented DJ Maphorisa, real name Themba Sekowe – who has worked with local and international stars such Mafikizolo, Kwesta and the Canadian rapper, Drake – is not only ignoring Malinga, but the company that deals with his publishing rights, Sheer Publishing.
According to the General Manager of Sheer Publishing, Karabo Motijoane, DJ Maphorisa has a week to deal with the matter if he wants to avoid jail.
“I sent an email and spoke to him on the phone. He has a week to respond. If he doesn’t, we’ll serve him court papers,” he said.
