He is one of the founders of kwaito music – the genre that has been described as the heart of South African music – and has been in the music industry for almost 30 years.
Mandla Mofokeng, musically known as Spikiri, will be honoured for his contribution in the industry at 100% Pure Kwaito show at Bassline in Newtown next Saturday.
The line up to celebrate the Trompies group star’s achievement at the event include Brickz, Alaska, Mjokes, Jakarumba, Mzambiya, kwaito yellow bone Mshoza, Tina, Tsekeleke, Mavusana-summer-time, 2,5 Naija’s finest Valentine, Sbu Maloya, Mkiyase and also supported by DJs Mgiftana, Pasho and Ohza on the decks and many more.
This is not the first time the kwaito legend has been honoured. When Metro FM turned 25 in 2011, the SABC radio station honoured Spikiri with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
